Vinelands Power Plant: a new clean power source for our members

A new clean power source for our members.

Our journey to providing our members with 100% carbon-free energy by 2030 continues with the addition of the Vinelands Power Plant in Palisade to our power supply portfolio. This hydroelectric project was submitted in 2020 as part of our request for proposals for local renewable energy projects.

The plant is a retrofit of an existing hydro plant that dates back to the 1930s and has been refurbished to generate twice as much electricity using the same water flow. The project is owned by Orchard Mesa Irrigation District and Grand Valley Water Users Association.

A ribbon cutting was held for the new power plant in Palisade on November 30 and included representatives from each of the agencies involved in the project.

The project will generate 22,000 MWh per year, just under 2% of the power we provide to our members.
