Construction underway for High Mesa Solar + Storage Complex

News Alert:

Construction is underway at AES’ new High Mesa Solar Plus Storage facility in Colorado’s Garfield County. 10 MW solar array and 20 MWh battery storage facility will deliver renewable power to Holy Cross Energy (HCE) and its members over the next 20 years – and support HCE in its transition to a greener, smarter energy future.

Site preparation for the High Mesa facility, which is located at 1691 County Road 300 in Parachute, began in August, and full construction activities started this fall. Residents will see a possible increase in traffic in the area and transportation of equipment on Stone Quarry Road, west of Parachute city limits. For their part, local businesses will see upswings in customers from the construction and project teams working in the area.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2023, and the facility will become fully operational in late 2023 upon transmission system upgrades.

The 10 MW solar array is expected to generate power for up to 2,800 households annually. The 20 MWh battery storage capacity will enable HCE to store and shift electricity produced by the solar panels during the day for use in evening hours when customer demand is often highest.

The clean energy project will support HCE’s 100X30 goal to provide its members with 100 percent clean energy by 2030 and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.

###

Since 1939, HCE has been the electrical provider to several communities in Western Colorado. HCE is a not-for-profit electric cooperative that serves more than 44,500 members with 58,000 meters. For decades, HCE has remained committed to providing safe, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy that improves the quality of life for its members and their communities.
