Holy Cross Energy announces lottery for 2025/2026 income-qualified Sustainable Solar

Glenwood Springs, CO, September 1, 2024 – Beginning today, income-qualified Holy Cross Energy members can submit a lottery application for the rural electric cooperative’s Sustainable Solar program.

Sustainable Solar helps reduce electric bills by providing income-qualified members access to locally generated clean energy and can provide bill savings of up to 50 percent.

“This program provides members that might not have the resources or roof space to add solar panels to their homes, a way to use renewable energy and receive a bill credit without panels on their roofs” said VP of Member & Community Relations Jenna Weatherred, “ We believe it is a great way to expand solar for our communities.”

There are currently 90-100 spots available for the program, and participants will be selected via lottery in January 2025. Applications are due by November 30, 2024.

Who can apply

Members qualify for the Sustainable Solar lottery if their annual household income is less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for their county, based on the number of people in their household:

How it works

Members who fall under the income limits for their county can submit an online application for the lottery at www.holycross.com/sustainable-solar. Members who are selected will receive two years’ worth of access to local clean energy.

Solar energy is produced from two HCE-owned arrays at their Cooley Mesa Operations Center. One of which is named Adams Way Solar, after former Eagle community member and HCE board member, Adam Palmer.

Members enrolled in the program will have a percentage of the offset of the array applied as a credit to their monthly HCE electric bill.

Sustainable Solar is open to any HCE member, including those in single-family homes, multi-family homes, homeowners, renters and seniors.
