JULY 2026

Thank you for helping us put safety first.

June brought an unusually high number of Red Flag Warning days across our region, with hot, dry, and windy conditions creating an elevated wildfire risk. As a result, we activated our Fire Safety Settings more often than usual. These settings make our power lines more sensitive to potential hazards, helping reduce the risk of a wildfire starting.

We know this can also mean more frequent and longer-lasting outages, since our crews must visually inspect power lines and equipment before power can be safely restored. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding while our crews work to get the lights back on as quickly and safely as possible.

Fire Safety Settings are just one part of our year-round approach to reducing wildfire risk. We also invest in ongoing vegetation management, advanced equipment inspections, system upgrades, and other proactive measures.

Everything we do is centered on one goal: helping protect the communities we serve while continuing to provide safe, reliable electric service.

Two easy ways to save. Which one's right for you?

When it comes to lowering your electric bill, using less total electricity each month is probably the first thing that comes to mind. But that’s not the only way to save!

A little flexibility in when you use electricity can make a difference, too.

  • Peak Time Payback is our free, voluntary program that rewards you for using less electricity during occasional periods of high overall demand on the electric grid. We’ll let you know when an event is happening, and you can earn bill credits simply by shifting or reducing your electricity use during those times.
  • Lowering your own demand, the highest amount of electricity your home uses at one time during a billing cycle, is another way to save. By consistently spreading out when you run larger appliances like your dryer, oven, water heater, or EV charger, you can help lower your own monthly peak and you may reduce your Demand Charge.

Making small changes to when you use electricity can help lower your bill while also easing demand on the electric grid. It’s a win for you and for the co-op.

“Motivation to make a positive difference in my community”

Local Basalt High School student Hector Corrales recently represented Holy Cross Energy on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. During the week, he met students from across the country, explored our nation’s capital, learned about electric cooperatives and government, and built friendships he’ll carry for years to come.

“This experience opens your eyes to new opportunities, helps you build lifelong connections, and teaches lessons that go far beyond the classroom,” Hector said. “Be yourself, ask questions, and take advantage of every moment.”

We’re grateful to support students like Hector through Youth Tour and help cultivate the next generation of leaders in our communities.

Feeling the heat?

Now’s a great time to take a fresh look at a heat pump. With our home energy rebates, EnergySmart Colorado partner rebates, and even state-level rebates, upgrading your home’s heating and cooling system may cost less than you think.

Today’s heat pumps drastically reduce your winter electric use compared to electric resistance heating, such as electric baseboard heaters. But these two-in-one systems also provide valuable summertime cooling comfort, especially on these smoky days when you want to keep your windows closed at night

More Newsy Bits!

Record Election Turnout

100% Renewable Energy in March
For the first time ever, we provided members with 100% renewable electricity for an entire month! This achievement marks a significant milestone in our “100×30” goal of providing 100% renewable electricity to our members by 2030. Learn More >

New Aspen Airport Business Center Microgrid
We partnered with Pitkin County and RFTA on a new microgrid at the Aspen Airport Business Center, helping improve energy resilience while supporting cleaner, more reliable local power. This “micro” portion of our electric grid can keep the power on even if the main grid goes down, thanks to onsite solar and battery energy storage. Check Out The Project >

1,000 EV Chargers…and counting!
Our Charge at Home and Charge at Work programs have now helped members and local businesses install more than 1,000 electric vehicle chargers across our service territory. Considering making the switch to an EV? We’re here to help!
