Investing in Our Students to Power Our Communities

A letter to members from Amy Hausman, Human Resources Administrator

As a rural electric cooperative, Holy Cross Energy depends on a skilled and reliable local workforce. Workforce shortages are a real challenge across our region, especially in skilled trades and technical fields. At the same time, many local students leave the area for education and don’t return.

That’s why Holy Cross Energy’s Scholarship Program is more than financial support for students. It’s a practical investment in our communities and the workforce we rely on. These scholarships help reduce financial barriers while encouraging students to pursue meaningful careers close to home.

Holy Cross Energy’s Scholarship Program focuses on five areas that directly support community and utility needs:

  • Electric Lineworker scholarships help build the next generation of workers who keep electric service reliable and safe.
  • First-Generation college scholarships support students who are the first to navigating higher education in their families and expand opportunity across our service territory.
  • Women in STEM scholarships help strengthen the future energy workforce with diverse perspectives and skills.
  • Trade School scholarships support hands-on training for stable, in-demand careers that are essential to our local economy.
  • Our Clean Energy Future scholarship encourages students to engage with the skills and ideas needed to support Holy Cross Energy’s clean energy goals.

Reliable electric service depends on people as much as it does on infrastructure. By investing in local students, Holy Cross Energy is helping build the workforce needed to maintain our system and plan for the future. When local students succeed and find meaningful work close to home, the entire cooperative and community benefits.

We encourage graduating seniors and students receiving a G.E.D. this spring to apply by March 8 at holycross.com/scholarships.
