Holy Cross Energy Modifies System to Reduce Chance of Fires

Glenwood Springs, CO, June 8, 2018. Holy Cross Energy (HCE), the electric cooperative serving Eagle, Garfield and Pitkin counties, announced today that because of the increase in fire danger across its service territory, the cooperative will be taking certain steps to minimize the possibility of the HCE electric system starting a fire.

Over the next few months, whenever the National Weather Service issues a “Red Flag Warning” within our service territory, HCE will modify our system to reduce the chance of an electrical fire.

Once the “Red Flag Warning” has expired, the system will return to normal operations.  This increase in fire protection also increases the possibility of more electric service outages.

“We realize that interruptions in our electric service can be inconvenient and difficult for our members, but our primary concern is always the safety and protection of our community and environment, therefore we have decided that the increased security on our system is worth the possibility of more outages.

If you experience an outage, please know that we are working as safely, quickly and diligently as possible to restore your electric service.” Cody O’Neil, V.P. Glenwood District Operation.
