Renewable Energy Systems, a worldwide developer of renewable projects, has submitted a land-use proposal to Pitkin County’s community development department that details plans for a 33-acre, 18,000-panel solar farm just south of Woody Creek.
A project presentation had been planned for Tuesday’s meeting of the county planning and zoning commission. However, the commission is expected to continue the presentation to early November, according to Suzanne Wolff, county assistant director of community development.
The application was submitted to the county in May. But only in recent weeks have local referral agencies provided comments on the project, Wolff said. The application is still being reviewed by county staff.
“Everybody’s finally starting to talk about it,” she said. “The applicant has gotten some comments, they’re still responding to comments, and they’re submitting additional information to us.”
The project is described as a for-profit venture by RES to supply energy to Holy Cross Energy, the nonprofit electricity cooperative that supplies power to over 55,000 customers in the Roaring Fork Valley and along the I-70 corridor of the Western Slope.
