Signature Aviation’s Vail Valley Jet Center (VVJC), which services general aviation aircraft, has been working towards its clean energy goals, which include reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. This includes several energy-saving techniques, including turning off heaters when a hangar door is open and replacing 584 individual light fixtures with LED lighting, which is 60% more energy efficient.
Signature’s VVJC has also been working further up the power grid by participating in Holy Cross Energy’s PuRE Program, which offsets 100% of a building’s energy consumption with renewables. Signature has also worked to replace natural gas heaters in nearby Eagle County residences with energy-efficient electrified heating. When combined together, this has enabled Signature’s Vail Valley Jet Center to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions – meaning their own operations have no discernable environmental impact.
“Achieving carbon neutrality has required some major investments and new thinking, but we’re glad that VVJC can do its part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions here in Colorado,” shared Paul Gordon, President and General Manager of Vail Valley Jet Center.
For the private aircraft that frequent Signature’s VVJC, Signature has also provided a solution to reduce carbon emissions through a new type of jet fuel called ‘Sustainable Aviation Fuel’, or SAF. This newly developed fuel uses renewable ingredients such as used cooking oil to power aircraft, which reduces the carbon impacts of aircraft by about 25%, with that number expected to increase in the future.
