HCE Voices – Robert Rittner

Robert Rittner
Infrastructure Field Technician

Where did you grow up? I moved to Vail in 1976, when I was 11.

When did you start working for HCE? I started in May 2015.

What does a typical day look like for you? First thing in the morning, I check our system to see if there are any issues I need to resolve. Currently, I’m completing maintenance at our high sites (sites that are high in elevation, allowing for the uninterrupted transfer of operational data) and helping my team with ongoing projects.

What’s the best part of your job? Working out in the field, there are times just getting to our equipment is the difficult part. I like the challenge!

Is there anything that surprised you about working for an electric co-op that you didn’t know before working here? The amount of education and knowledge our lineworkers have, lots of respect for those folks.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m really into adventure motorcycling (off-road touring). I just completed the Utah Backcountry Discovery Route and plan on doing the Arizona Route this spring. I also backcountry ski and mountain bike.

What is one interesting fact about yourself? When I was younger, I wanted to be a ski instructor!
